Q: What is Next Gen Ministry?

A: Next Gen ministry encompasses the preschool (birth - Pre-K), children (K - grade 4), middle school (grades 6 - 8), high school (grades 9 - 12), college (18 – 22) and young adult (ages 23 - 30) ministries of Free Christian Church. The focus of the Next Gen ministry is to come alongside parents that have preschoolers, children, students, and young adults in their lives and help them navigate the issues of the contemporary culture. Next Gen partners with every parent, volunteer, and adult leaders to equip every child, student, and young professional to cultivate a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.

Q: What is the role of the Next Gen Pastor?

A: The Next Gen Pastor has oversight of ages 0 – 30, supports and supervises Next Gen leaders, and ensures the ministry is in alignment with FCC’s vision, mission, and purpose statement. The Next Gen Pastor is responsible for the safety of all kids and students; training and background checks of volunteers; incident reports; curriculum; confirmation; communion classes; Baptisms for ages 18 and under; pastoral counseling for youth and young adults; and policy and procedures.

Q: Are there objectives for effective Next Gen Ministry?

A: Yes! One of the primary goals is to ensure each student moves through each stage of life (grade) seamlessly, and with the support of their church family. Our objectives include: To Empower all students to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in today’s culture To teach students what responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the church in their everyday mission To Foster the whole person and spiritual growth of each student from cradle to adulthood




Meet Next Gen Pastor Marcus

Rev. Dr. Marcus Hill lives to smile, share the Gospel and connect with people. Pastor Marcus has ministered across multiple denominations as an ordained minister and educator. Born and raised in Southern California, Marcus’s spiritual journey began in the Missionary Baptist Church where he accepted Christ at twelve and was ordained at fifteen.

Before becoming the Next Gen Pastor at Free Christian Church, Pastor Marcus served as Pastor of Student Ministries for Bridges Community Church and Dean of Spiritual Life at Los Altos Christian Schools in Northern California. He holds a Master of Divinity from Azusa Pacific Seminary; a Master of Higher Education from Boston University; and a Doctor of Ministry from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.

Pastor Marcus’ passion for ministry is a calling that burns deep in his soul. When he isn’t studying, he is playing ultimate Frisbee, working out and grabbing a bite to eat at almost every Mexican Restaurant between here and Mexico!
