A Virgin Shall Conceive
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. - Isaiah 7:14

I remember when my wife, Gigi, first told me she was pregnant. To say I was ecstatic is a huge understatement. The pure joy of bringing a baby into this world was something else.
But the months and weeks leading up to this surprise announcement were gloomy. I received advice and counsel from a few people. I was praying for God to give us a baby. But, I still felt like the prospect of being a father was a pipedream for me. In moments of uncertainty, I get desperate and lose hope.
I wanted more than good advice and counsel. I wanted to be told everything would be okay and that Gigi and I would have a baby. I wanted certainty and hope. If we were given the promise that we’d conceive, it would have been a game changer. Hope is exciting. Hope is powerful.
God does more than just provide hope in this verse. Through the Prophet Isaiah, God was giving His people hope and a promise, which we can now claim as certainty! We don’t know if the people listening to Isaiah’s words were ecstatic about this news. I’m sure many rolled their eyes since their ancestors died waiting for the Messiah. But, today, we are so blessed to know that God’s promise came to fruition. We know how things played out. We know the Gospel truth!
When the days seem dark, when we feel desperate, and when we are disillusioned, we must remember Jesus and live in the hope and certainty that we are His children, He is our Savior, and that (one of my favorite phrases to remember):
Jesus is who He says He is and He will do what He says He will do.
Prayer: God, fill us with the hope. Help us to live in your truth and always remember your promise to never leave nor forsake us. May our hope never waver and may it be lived out in such a way that ministers to others who need your Truth in their lives. Amen.
