First Born Higher than Kings

And I will appoint him to be my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of the earth. - Psalm 89:27

By Pastor Brian Bethke

Growing up one of my favorite things to do was decorating the Christmas tree. As a young child we did not have a lot of money so most of our decorations we handmade or given to us by my grandparents. The decorations that stood out to me the most was the clear acrylic stars. The stars stood out to me because I experienced so much joy and reverence in them. They were beautiful and had a way of magnifying the Christmas tree lights that was breathtaking. I hung them on the highest spot on the tree so that everyone could see them. Often, I would wake up early in the morning just to stare at the magnificent lights produced by these stars. However, if a star fell and shattered, the shards would cut an unsuspecting foot.

Beauty and reverence made these stars special and standout from any other decoration.

Jesus Christ is the zenith of the Father’s revelation that reflects the glory of God in the most intense way. The more you stare at Christ the more you discover his eternal magnificence. Yes He is magnificent but he is also our King who deserves our heartfelt obedience. During his first Advent, he was born in a humble manger. Soon he will come back as the conquering King exalted for all to see. This Advent may we prepare the way by exalting Him at the center of our lives so everyone can see.
