Call of Abram

The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. 2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” - Genesis 12:1-3

The Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

I confess often I’m very behind in my bible study homework. But maybe just this once it was divine timing. The assignment I was struggling to do aligned perfectly with this passage. The homework was a whole section devoted to the intricacies of going.

There was a time after my first year of college that I heard God say “Go!” Going was exciting and terrifying and with the support of my family and the confidence I felt in the calling I went. Taking a year off of college, I joined a touring music and drama ministry. I felt under qualified but full of faith. What I learned about God, others and myself impacts me and my work to this day. I never hustled so hard, slept so little or traveled so much and I would go back and do it all over again if given the chance.

God, I believe you can find us where we are and make us more like Jesus as we go. Give us faith to move beyond what we can see, help us trust you now for the sake of future generations. Amen.
