Now the LORD had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family

and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.”

Genesis 12:1 NKJV

I didn’t grow up in a Christian home even though my grandfather was a pastor for the Assembly of God in Brazil. My grandparents prayed for the salvation of our family and I’m the living proof that prayers are answered (grandmother is 93 and still does pray)! I became Christian when I was 21 years old. However it was not until I was 23 that I had a transformation encounter with Jesus. Everything changed in a weekend retreat in November of 1999, in Brasilia (where I am from). In that meeting I was healed from asthma and recommitted my life to Jesus with all my heart and Romans 8:1 became one of my life scriptures. From that moment on a lot was transformed in my life and scriptures became alive being the lamp for my feet. I was graduating from Dental school and had just applied to Tufts Dental School for a one-year program. What one has to understand of the magnitude of the healing is that when considering Boston for my studying the weather was a huge factor since my asthma symptoms were triggered by cold weather. But God had a plan and I was healed.

In May of 2000 when I moved from Brazil to Boston for the year, it had never crossed my mind that I was actually going to stay in the United States. My brother was already living here and I joined him with my baby brother. All was going as planned by my parents, when in a turn of events my brothers had to go back to Brazil and I was left here by myself to go to Tufts starting in September. In that transitional period, I listened to a sermon in which the pastor said that we have God’s seeds in us and depending where we are planted, we can grow or not grow into the tree the Lord intended for us to be. In that very moment I knew that I was staying because if I went back to Brazil I wouldn’t grow into whom He had purposely created me to become. Genesis 12:1 was the confirmation for what it was in my heart and as it is the beginning book of the Bible it marked the beginning of my adventure here. During my school year I could see the hand of our Father opening and closing doors in all aspects of my personal and spiritual life. In that year I met my husband Steve at Tufts. We’ve been married for 16 years. We have 3 beautiful kids, Isabella, Lucas and Matteo and a brand new puppy which arrived on August 23rd. Note: Isabella has been actively praying for a doggy for at least 5 years now. It worked as my heart was soften, but that’s another testimony all together.
