Service Project
Each year during the week of VBS participating families do a service project for an agency in the local area. We have...
- collected school supplies for Esparenza Academy, canned goods for Neighbors in Need and paper products for Lazarus House
- donated money to the Red Cross (for flood victims) and to Special Olympics
- purchased adaptive playground equipment for The Professional Center
This year we will partner with Communities Together (formerly the Greater Lawrence Council of Churches) to enable churches in the city of Lawrence to offer vacation bible school in their neighborhoods.
For these churches, the expense of a well planned program and curriculum is beyond their means. This will be the 34th year for this program that last year reached about 1,100 children with over 500 teens and adult volunteers.
Children at our VBS will be asked to do additional chores at home or for neighbors to raise money for this project. As a family you can also sponsor a child in Lawrence to attend VBS.
Funds raised at our Andover VBS for the VBS's at these churches will be used to purchase curriculum and craft supplies so the Lawrence children can enjoy the the same VBS program, bible lessons and activities, that we are doing this year.
Among the participating churches will be: Ebenezer Christian Church; Spanish Free Methodist; Christiana Methodista; Spanish Primitive Methodist; Spanish Assembly of God; St. Patrick's Church; Our Lady of Good Counsel; Christ United Methodist Church; Third Baptist; and MAJES (Centro de Adoracion Jesuchristo es el Senor).
