John 16:5-14a
- "Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?'
- Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief.
- But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
- When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:
- in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me;
- in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer;
- and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
- "I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.
- But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
- He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.
Isaiah 6:1-9
- In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple.
- Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.
- And they were calling to one another:
"Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory."
- At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.
- "Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty."
- Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar.
- With it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for."
- Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"
And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"
- He said, "Go and tell this people:
" 'Be ever hearing, but never understanding;
be ever seeing, but never perceiving.'
