Mexico, cont...

After visiting the colonia we set out for the market in Juarez to buy souveniers and gifts for family and friends.  It was nice to get some neat things, but I didn’t enjoy the “Miss, what are you looking for?” and knowing that the price I was being given initially was to be bargained down!

Then we went out to dinner at a Mexican restaurant.  It was good, but nothing compared to the wonderful cooking we had been enjoying at Resplandor de Vida by Hortencia and the Mexican women.  Some on the team thought we would be having rice and beans at every meal and we probably did, but there were many other wonderful foods that accompanied them!  We ate extremely well.  Thank you, Hortencia, for all your hard work!   We got to enjoy this wonderful fare for 5 dinners and 2 lunches.

Friday was mostly dedicated to preparing for, making and pouring cement for a threshold by the big gate, and for the fence posts.  We also spent some time cleaning up the place and getting organized for our departure on Saturday.  During the week chores were divided. We each took turns making and cleaning up breakfast, setting out and cleaning up lunch, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning up dinner and sweeping out the dorm (especially needed after blowing in insulation!)  We really, really appreciated not having to make dinners!  Friday night we had a special time of singing, sharing and praying around the campfire.  The fire felt good in the cool night.

The weather started out cool on Sunday, but warmed up nicely as the week progressed.  A nice break from winter!  Saturday our flight wasn’t that early and we were able to have breakfast and leave at 7:40 to head to the airport.  Again, the border crossing was a breeze. Thank you, Lord!  We had a good week working together.  And we felt the size of the team was just right for this year!
